Social Intelligence (SQ)

We speak so much about Emotional Intelligence (EQ), I have recently come across a term 'Social Intelligence' (SQ).

It is a capacity to (Heo, Misook et al., 2022):

  1. Understand the motivations or intentions of others

  2. Use social strategies

  3. Maneuver complicated social settings

  4. Interact with others

  5. Adapt to social situations

Social intelligence develops from learning from success and failures in social settings.

Social intelligence includes the following abilities:

  1. Verbal and non-verbal fluency (conversational skills are the most basic form of social intelligence)

  2. Knowledge of social rules and roles

  3. Listening skills

  4. Understanding how other people's emotions work

  5. Playing social roles efficiently

  6. Self-Image and impression management

Social intelligence is of high importance in the future of work as we need to become experts in collaboration.
