Going back to my studies while working in an academic environment has reminded me why I’ve always been so fascinated by academia.
There are two things that stand out to me the most.
First, the way academia generates new knowledge - ideas, theories, and frameworks that could completely transform industries if applied.
Too often, businesses operate in a cycle where knowledge builds on itself, reinforcing existing ways of doing things.
But when organizations take the time to engage with academic insights, to step outside of the usual patterns and adopt structured, research-backed approaches, the impact can be incredible.
Seeing academic ideas make their way into real-world applications is one of the most exciting collaborations out there.
Second, the people.
Academia brings together some of the most brilliant minds with incredibly deep expertise in fields I didn’t even know existed. Their passion for their work is contagious.
But beyond that, what truly makes academia special is the global collaboration it enables.
Through publishing, research projects, and conferences, scholars from completely different backgrounds and parts of the world come together to develop ideas from multiple perspectives. That diversity of thought is what makes academic work so rich and dynamic.
Being immersed in this environment again has reminded me how much I value these aspects of academia.
It’s not just about research - it’s about the way knowledge is created, shared, and applied, and the connections that make it all possible.
